Position: SEN Teaching Assistant – Challenging Behaviours Contract Type: Full-time Long-term Temporary Work Start Date: 8 September 2026 Location: Harrow, London, UK Salary: £90–£100 per day Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only Help Pupils Re-engage with Learning Teach Now is looking for a resilient and relationship-focused SEN Teaching Assistant with challenging behaviour experience to join a primary setting in Harrow. This long-term role involves supporting pupils whose behaviour may be linked to SEND, communication difficulties, emotional regulation or previous barriers to learning. The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create consistency, reduce disruption and help pupils experience success. The role requires patience, professional curiosity and the ability to remain calm when situations become challenging. Main Responsibilities Providing one-to-one and small-group behaviour support Building trusted and appropriate relationships with pupils Identifying triggers and responding to early signs of escalation Using agreed de-escalation and regulation strategies Reinforcing routines, boundaries and positive choices Helping pupils return to learning following an incident Supporting differentiated classroom activities Recording behaviour, progress and relevant incidents accurately Working with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral colleagues Essential Requirements Applicants should have: Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, SEMH or SEND At least six months of recent experience in education, youth work, care or a similar setting Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills The ability to remain calm, fair and consistent Good professional boundaries A commitment to inclusion and pupil wellbeing The right to work in the UK A thorough understanding of safeguarding responsibilities Training in Team Teach, positive handling, trauma-informed practice or emotional regulation would be beneficial but is not essential.
