Site Manager
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 per annum + Benefits
Reporting To: Project Manager / Senior Project Manager / Contracts Manager
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to join our growing construction team, delivering a new storage and distribution depot project in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
This role would particularly suit a Site Manager with a strong engineering and commercial construction background, who is comfortable managing projects involving significant groundworks, setting out, retaining structures, drainage, external works, and steel frame construction.
Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of site activities, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The successful candidate will be confident overseeing technically challenging packages and coordinating subcontractors throughout all phases of construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day site operations from project commencement through to completion.
- Lead and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and direct labour on site.
- Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures and current legislation.
- Monitor programme progress and proactively identify and resolve any issues impacting delivery.
- Maintain excellent standards of quality control throughout all phases of construction.
- Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks, and health and safety briefings.
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and company Health & Safety policies.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, project teams, and key stakeholders.
- Coordinate site logistics, materials, plant, and labour requirements.
- Maintain accurate site records, including progress reports, site diaries, and health and safety documentation.
- Support project delivery teams in achieving programme, commercial, and operational objectives.
- Attend project meetings and provide regular updates to senior management.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
Previous experience as a Site Manager within the construction industry.
Strong background delivering commercial construction projects.
Engineering or technical construction background with a good understanding of setting out, groundworks, retaining walls, drainage, infrastructure and steel frame structures.
Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple work packages on site.
Excellent knowledge of construction methods, sequencing and site management practices.
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and engineering information.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Qualifications
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
- CSCS Management Card.
- First Aid at Work Certificate.
- Relevant construction qualification (HNC/HND, NVQ, Degree, or equivalent) desirable.
Desirable
Previous experience delivering storage and distribution, industrial, logistics, infrastructure, highways or major commercial projects.
Engineering qualification or previous experience in a Site Engineer or Engineering Manager capacity.
Temporary Works awareness.
Experience managing reinforced concrete and retaining structure works.
Asbestos Awareness certification.
