Are you a hands-on engineer with a passion for problem-solving and keeping systems running smoothly? We’re hiring a Senior Maintenance Technician to join the technical team at one of the UK’s most iconic public institutions, based in the heart of Central London.

This is a rare opportunity to apply your mechanical and electrical expertise in a dynamic, visitor-facing environment, working behind the scenes to maintain and improve a wide range of interactive exhibits and engineering systems.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the maintenance, repair, and optimisation of electromechanical installations, including interactive exhibits and gallery features
  • Diagnosing and resolving faults across mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Supporting exhibition builds, gallery refurbishments, and special projects from a technical perspective
  • Co-ordinating with colleagues and external contractors to ensure all technical assets remain safe, operational, and compliant
  • Assisting with installations, testing, and upgrades of equipment and systems
  • Keeping accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, and resolutions

What We’re Looking For

  • Solid hands-on experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance, ideally in a public, commercial, or engineering environment
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electromechanical systems
  • Confidence using workshop tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Knowledge of control systems, pneumatics, AV/IT, or PLCs would be advantageous
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a collaborative working style

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience)
  • Health & Safety awareness; experience working to British Standards and compliance protocols is a plus
  • You must have the right to work in the UK – sponsorship is not available for this role

Why Apply?

  • Join a technically skilled team working on large-scale, meaningful public projects
  • Excellent facilities, structured working hours, and long-term job stability
  • Be part of an organisation that values creativity, innovation, and hands-on engineering
