ROLE OVERVIEW //
We are recruiting for a Senior Business Development Executive to join the Global Client Development (GCD) team, which forms part of the wider Commercial department, based at the firm’s head office in London. The GCD team works closely with partners and other fee earners to win work and grow client relationships on a global basis. Taking an integrated approach to client development, the team brings together regional, practice and sector-based expertise to maintain, grow and support client relationships and law firm (strategic partner) relationships.
This role will be supporting our BD efforts for the financing practice which is made up of 19 partners. The financing practice works on the most difficult, demanding and innovative deals and provides the highest quality legal advice to all types of clients. We act for many leading UK and international corporates, and support them in all their treasury transactions, making us a pre-eminent adviser to corporate borrowers and issuers. We also work for major financial institutions on challenging transactions or those involving novel instruments or structures.
The Financing stream has a full service offering but with a particular focus on sub streams such as Banking and Finance, Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Derivatives, Restructuring and Insolvency (R&I), Infrastructure and Energy, Securitisation and Sustainable Finance.
The financing BD team supports the fee earners on all business development activities including client relationship management, client targeting and tracking, pitching, the production of credentials documents and client events. The successful candidate will report into the senior BD manager for financing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //
The key responsibilities of the financing BD senior executive are set out below - there may be others which are not listed. This is hybrid role with an expectation to be in the office three days a week (with a requirement for four days during the probationary period) and the successful candidate may require some working outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
There are three core areas of focus for this role:
Opportunity identification and Client Relationship Development
- Key role in managing the successful Treasurer roundtable series. Managing the target/ invitee list and the content/ follow up materials, whilst ensuring follow up takes place
- Provide support for (and manage selected) day-to-day targeting initiatives for the financing BD team
- Support the financing team with identifying and pursuing client development and general targeting opportunities, including maintaining targeting intelligence, researching clients/markets for opportunities, pitching ideas to fee earners and checking that actions are followed up on
- Support the team on client, market, industry and competitor-focussed research, summarising findings and articulating the ‘call to action’ for fee earners
Practice support and development
- Support the senior BD manager for financing in delivering the BD plan for the practice and sub streams
- Provide independent BD support for the financing practice and key initiatives, including managing the production of content (working with fee earners and PSLs), providing BD event support and leading internal meetings with fee earners. Ownership of specific sub streams including R&I and Securitisation.
- Provide pitch support for financing opportunities, from opportunity assessment through to submission and follow-up actions
- Maintain and update the suite of financing marketing documents, including pitch materials, credentials, targeting lists and alumni lists
- Lead on some of the Financing group’s directory and awards submissions in conjunction with PSLs and support from the senior manager.
- Supporting with preparing materials for business development trips undertaken by financing country partners/ associates
- Manage the department’s CRM lists, using the firm’s CRM tool — Microsoft Dynamics
Campaigns and content
- Supporting the delivery and promotion of content and marketing campaigns through internal and external channels, including measuring and reporting on ROI
- Provide commercial BD support on flagship and practice-led client events, including management of client and targeting lists and capturing ROI
- Assist with developing internal communications that support the financing practice, including internal events, training, announcements and campaigns
- Maintain and update financing website pages to ensure content is compelling, up to date and consistent with the financing strategy
- Collaborating with the wider BD department, such as Research and Insight, Communications, Digital and Design teams to execute marketing campaigns
CANDIDATE PROFILE //
Candidates for this position must have:
- Degree-educated or equivalent industry experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, confidence to develop strong working relationships with fee earners and members of the BD team.
- Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables independently within a tight timeframe and deliver high quality work.
- At least two years’ BD and Marketing experience, most recently at executive or senior executive level, in legal or professional services.
- Ability to manage and analyse large amounts of data and identify commercial BD opportunities within it.
- Ability to be proactive, entrepreneurial, and self-motivated.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, spoken and presentational).
- Excellent attention to detail and good use of grammar.
- Proactive approach to defining needs and delivering solutions.
- Ability to build strong business relationships with internal and external clients and the resilience to deal with demanding individuals.
