Job Description

Reference: BH-69508 Somewhere right now, a live broadcast is going out, a control room operator is watching over critical infrastructure, and a transport network is running exactly on schedule, all connected in real time by technology built by the team you'd be joining. If you've got a solid few years of networking embedded software behind you and you're ready to get straight into meaningful work, this is worth a look. The opportunity This is a hands-on role across the stack: one day you're down in the Linux kernel, working through device drivers and board bring-up, the next you're in real-time multimedia streaming that has to hit zero latency, because somewhere a broadcaster or a control room is relying on it. You'll be writing embedded C, C++ and Rust for IP-based KVM and connectivity products used in genuinely mission-critical environments: broadcast, national security, transport, industrial control. This isn't internal tooling or prototype work. It's software that ships and stays in the field. What's essentialYou need a networking embedded software background, and whilst plenty of training and career progression is available, we need someone with the experience to hit the ground running. This is a mid-level role with excellent opportunity for progression. someone who can pick up an existing codebase, understand the constraints of multi-threaded, performance-critical systems, and start contributing quickly.Alongside that, you'll bring:Several years' hands-on experience with C, C++ and/OR RustConfidence building middleware and backend applications on LinuxA proven track record optimising performance-critical, multi-threaded codeBonus points if you've worked with HDMI, DisplayPort, USB, streaming media protocols or embedded Linux environmentsWhy it's worth your timeEmployee-owned: So when the business does well, so do youA genuine engineering heritage stretching back decades, with national recognition for innovation and export excellence along the wayYou'll sit alongside hardware, software and test engineers who actually talk to each other, not siloed teams throwing code over a wallReal autonomy from day one: a say in how products get built, not just a ticket queue to work throughHybrid working, so you're not chained to a desk five days a week, although due to the excellent working environment many of the engineers choose to work on site most of the time, so you have a lot of support around you when needed. The benefitsCompetitive salary25 days holidayBonus schemeExcellent pensionHybrid workingPrivate healthcare optionCycle-to-work schemeFree on-site parkingSound like you? If you've built a solid career in networking-focused embedded software and you're ready to step straight into systems that actually matter, not another lengthy onboarding process, this is worth a conversation.
