Ers ei sefydlu ym 1884, mae gan Brifysgol Bangor draddodiad hir o ragoriaeth academaidd, a phwyslais cryf ar brofiad myfyrwyr Heddiw mae tua 10,000 o fyfyrwyr yn astudio yn y Brifysgol. Mae ganddi tua 1,700 o staff mewn deuddeg o Ysgolion Academaidd o fewn tri Choleg, wedi eu cefnogi gan nifer o Wasanaethau Proffesiynol.
Mae Prifysgol Bangor yn falch o'i chymeriad dwyieithog nodedig, lle mae'r Gymraeg a'r Saesneg yn cael eu gwerthfawrogi'n gyfartal fel ieithoedd dysg, gwaith a chymuned. Saif y Brifysgol yn un o gadarnleoedd yr iaith, ac yn hyn o beth mae hi wedi ymrwymo i hyrwyddo a dathlu dwyieithrwydd ym mhob agwedd ar ei gweithgareddau. Mae'r ymrwymiad hwn yn cyfoethogi profiad y myfyrwyr a'r staff, yn cryfhau ein cysylltiad â'r cymunedau a wasanaethwn, ac yn adlewyrchu ein cred bod amrywiaeth ieithyddol a diwylliannol yn ffynhonnell o ragoriaeth academaidd, arloesedd a chynhwysiant. Fel sefydliad gwirioneddol ddwyieithog, rydym yn chwilio am arweinwyr a fydd yn hyrwyddo ac yn meithrin y nodwedd ddiffiniol hon o hunaniaeth a dyfodol y Brifysgol.
Mae'r Brifysgol wedi'i rhestru yn safle 30 yn y Deyrnas Unedig am effaith gymdeithasol ei hymchwil yn y Fframwaith Rhagoriaeth Ymchwil diwethaf; mae hi ar y brig yng Nghymru ac yn safle 17 yn y Deyrnas Unedig ar restr University Compare 2027; yn ail yng Nghymru, yn safle 40 yn y Deyrnas Unedig ac yn safle 360 yn y byd ar restr TIME 2026 o Brifysgolion Gorau'r Byd; ymhlith y 50 uchaf yn y Deyrnas Unedig yn y Complete University Guide 2027; ac ymhlith y 10 uchaf yn y Deyrnas Unedig ac yn safle 74 yn y byd am gynaliadwyedd yn y Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026
Bydd Mrs Marian Wyn Jones, Cadeirydd presennol y Cyngor, yn camu o'r neilltu ar 30 Tachwedd 2026, ac rydym ni nawr yn ceisio penodi ei holynydd i arwain y corff llywodraethu ar adeg hollbwysig i addysg uwch. Bydd y swyddogaeth bwysig hon yn darparu arweinyddiaeth strategol, llywodraethu cadarn a goruchwyliaeth effeithiol, a bydd y sawl a benodir yn gynghorydd dibynadwy a chyfaill beirniadol i'r Is-ganghellor.
Mae'r Brifysgol yn chwilio am Gadeirydd eithriadol a fydd yn arwain y Cyngor trwy gyfnod o drawsnewid. Ar adeg hollbwysig yn nhaith y Brifysgol, bydd gennych y weledigaeth a'r dylanwad angenrheidiol i lunio'r dyfodol, hyrwyddo rhagoriaeth, a sicrhau bod y sefydliad yn cyflawni effaith barhaol.
Bydd gan yr ymgeisydd delfrydol sgiliau arweinyddiaeth cryf, a hanes o ymdrin yn llwyddiannus â sefyllfaoedd cymhleth. Bydd ganddynt brofiad o lywodraethu ar frig sefydliad mawr, ynghyd â chraffter ariannol, barn gadarn a sgiliau rhagorol o ran ymgysylltu â rhanddeiliaid.
Mae'r gallu i gyfathrebu'n effeithiol drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg yn hanfodol ar gyfer y penodiad hwn. Fel llysgennad gweladwy i'r Brifysgol, byddant yn helpu sicrhau bod y Gymraeg yn parhau i ffynnu wrth galon y sefydliad a'r cymunedau y mae'n eu gwasanaethu.
Byddant yn llysgennad dylanwadol, yn gallu meithrin perthnasoedd ar draws cymunedau amrywiol ac ymdrin â'r byd addysg uwch sy'n esblygu yng Nghymru a'r Deyrnas Unedig, gydag ymrwymiad cryf i lwyddiant myfyrwyr a staff y Brifysgol.
Mae dealltwriaeth o system wleidyddol Cymru a'i heffaith ar y system Addysg Uwch, yn ogystal â dealltwriaeth o'r sector a'i heriau cyfredol yn ddymunol iawn.
Rydym hefyd yn awyddus i ddenu ceisiadau gan bobl a fyddai â diddordeb bod yn Aelod Annibynnol o'r Cyngor. Bydd Aelodau Annibynnol yn arweinwyr strategol profiadol, gydag arbenigedd mewn archwilio, seiberddiogelwch, deallusrwydd artiffisial, eiddo, a/neu wyddoniaeth.

Bydd Pwyllgor Penodi a gynullir gan y Cyngor o dan ofynion Ordinhad 2 yn ystyried pob cais. Gwahoddir ymgeiswyr sydd wedi cyrraedd y rhestr fer i gyfweliad wyneb yn wyneb (sy'n debygol o fod ar ddechrau neu yng nghanol mis Tachwedd 2026) yn y cnawd ym Mhrifysgol Bangor.
Mae'r Brifysgol yn gyflogwr cyfle cyfartal, ac yn arbennig o awyddus i annog ceisiadau gan ymgeiswyr o ystod amrywiol o gefndiroedd. Mae ar y Brifysgol eisiau sicrhau bod y Cyngor yn adlewyrchu amrywiaeth cymuned y Brifysgol ac mae hi wedi ymrwymo i wella'r cydbwysedd rhwng y rhywiau ar y Cyngor, cyfran yr aelodau annibynnol sy'n medru'r Gymraeg, a'r aelodaeth o blith pobl dduon ac Asiaidd ac o leiafrifoedd ethnig.
Mae'r Brifysgol yn elusen gofrestredig ac mae aelodau'r Cyngor yn ymddiriedolwyr. Rhaid i ymgeiswyr felly fod yn barod i weithredu fel ymddiriedolwr ac ni ddylai unrhyw reswm a bennir gan y Comisiwn Elusennau eu rhwystro rhag gweithredu fel ymddiriedolwr.
Chair of Council, Bangor University

Mrs Marian Wyn Jones, the current Chair of Council, will step down on 30 November 2026, and we are now seeking to appoint her successor to lead the governing body at a pivotal time for higher education. This high-profile role will provide strategic leadership, robust governance and effective oversight, while acting as a trusted adviser and critical friend to the Vice-Chancellor.
The University is seeking an exceptional Chair who will lead the Council through a period of transformative change. At a pivotal moment in the University's journey, you will bring the vision and influence needed to shape the future, champion excellence, and ensure the organisation delivers lasting impact.
The ideal candidate will have strong leaderships skills, having a track record of successfully dealing with complex situations. They will bring senior governance experience within a large organisation, alongside financial acumen, sound judgement and excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
The ability to communicate effectively through the medium of Welsh is essential for this appointment. As a visible ambassador for the University, they will help ensure that Welsh continues to flourish at the heart of the institution and the communities it serves.
They will be an influential ambassador, able to build relationships across diverse communities and navigate the evolving higher education landscape in Wales and the UK, with a strong commitment to the success of the University's students and staff.
An understanding of the Welsh political system and its impact on the Higher Education system, as well as an understanding of the sector and its current challenges is highly desirable.
We are also keen to attract applications from individuals who would be interested in serving as an Independent Member of Council. Independent Members will be experienced strategic leaders, with expertise in audit, cyber security, AI, property, and/or science.

All applications will be considered by an Appointments Committee appointed by the Council under the requirements of Ordinance 2. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview (likely to take place early November 2026) to be held in person at Bangor University.
